Accessible Design in UK

Accessible design is part of our standard practice as we code your site. We don't charge extra for a service that we should legally and morally include anyway. But we can also update your current site to make it accessible to all (and legal!). Now you may be wondering what we are talking about...

We are based in Canterbury, Kent, UK and in UK (like many other countries) there are lots of discrimination laws and regulations. The main one regarding websites is section 21 of the Disability Discrimination Act.

A disabled person can make a claim against you if your website makes it impossible or unreasonably difficult to access information and services. If you have not made reasonable adjustments and cannot show that this failure is justified, then you may be liable under the Act, and may have to pay compensation and be ordered by a court to change your site. RNIB 2005

Having an accessible website also has other advantages such as

  • More search engine friendly
  • Website can be viewed on almost any device (mobile phone, PDA, game console etc)
  • Often smaller file sizes than the old "table" method that used to be used

So feel free to get in touch with us to find out if your site complies with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), if you want us to make your site accessible to all, or if you want us to build you a new site from scratch (all of our sites will always be accessible, anyway!)
